Fashion Talls: Trend Forecasting

This semesters Fashion Talks featured Fran Yoshioka. Fran has been in the industry for over 30 years and was kind enough to bring her experience and expertise to Columbia College.

Fran stressed the importance of training your eye to see the trends happening around you. Then, taking what you see and deciding what you will do with it. She listed being an observer as the number one skill set and being open to new ideas and images.

Her best advice for students was to look for creative internships, that don't necessarily have to be in the fashion industry. Her motto is that all industries involve fashion and trend and she encouraged students to be creative when looking for a job or internship. She also advised students to find a good mentor to guide them and help them along the way.

Fran showed a power point presentation that she presented to her clients at the beginning of the year. We went through trends that will happen in Fall 2011 and she illustrated what she saw in London and Paris. After the presentation students were able to meet with Fran and give her their information for future projects she will be working on involving students.
